The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) has identified Monday, October 6 as the date all Alberta teachers will be on strike. This means all PWPSD schools will be closed to all students and families, until an agreement is reached between the ATA and the Government of Alberta. During this time, you will not be able to communicate with your children's teacher(s) or principal(s) as per direction from the ATA.
Parents and caregivers should be planning for childcare beginning on Monday, October 6.
The Government of Alberta has prepared resources to support parents during the strike. The Parent Supports During School Closure webpage provides information on the following:
- Parent Toolkit: a resource that parents may use to help support their child’s independent learning
- Parent Payment Program: a program that provides financial support for families with students aged 12 and under
- Childcare Information: Links to childcare resources
We do not know how long this labour action will last, but we hope for a quick resolution, for the benefit of our students, staff and families.
