School Profile

Elmworth, AB, is a farming community located approximately 65 kilometers southwest of Grande Prairie.

Kindergarten to Grade 9

Special features:
The school features an outdoor rink, ball diamonds, soccer field, and is situated next to the community curling rink.

We run a Compressed School Week (CSW) resulting in an organization base of nine school days per two-week block, rather than the five school days per one-week block.
Our playground facility is for all to enjoy. Many parents attend and become involved with our School Council.

Junior high students enjoy alternating Career and Technology Studies (CTS) programming, including fine arts, sewing, photography/yearbook, cooking, physical training, outdoor education, small engines, building construction, robotics, and cosmetology. The County of Grande Prairie preschool program is housed within the school.

The school also offers special programs, including speech pathology services, counseling, early literacy intervention, and a complete swimming program for elementary students. Students also participate in extracurricular events such as sports, elementary and junior high intramurals, Student Leadership Group planned activities, Mentorship Hour, and many cultural events.

Elmworth Eagles compete in volleyball, badminton, track and field, and basketball.

Great reasons to choose Elmworth School:
  • We provide a safe environment in which students are given the opportunity to reach their academic potential.
  • Small class sizes ensure students are able to receive extra attention and help. The focus is on academics and expectations are high.
  • We are a community school. Parents and community members utilize the building and grounds for after-school programs and family activities.
  • Our athletic program focuses on volleyball, basketball, curling, badminton, and track & field. We offer an excellent swimming program for Grades 1-6 students. Grades 7-9 classes enjoy an annual ski trip to Nitehawk to take lessons and practice what they have learned while grades 4-6 visit the Wapiti Nordic Ski Hill for cross-country skiing. Elmworth School is situated next to the community skating and curling rinks.
  • Some of our special events include the annual Christmas concert, 1:1 Chromebooks for Grades 6-9 students, 1:1 laptops for students in grades 3-5, 1:1 iPads for grade 1 and grade 2 students, exciting field trips, Terry Fox Run, Missoula Theater, Play Day, Junior High Prom & Dance, and numerous guest speakers throughout the year.
  • Special programs: E.C.S., Early Literacy Intervention, Counselling, Inclusive Education, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. Our playschool program is run by the F.C.S.S.
  • We fundraise throughout the year for both the school and the community.
